Standard designs, Built for modern learning
The MoE has released brochures for three new standard designs, developed to provide scalable, high-performing learning spaces across New Zealand schools. These designs support roll growth, specialist teaching and future-focused education outcomes.
Portacom’s team proudly created the renders and many of the photography assets included in these brochures - because we don’t just visualise what’s possible. We build it.

Our passionate teams have extensive experience and expertise in delivering contemporary and functional temporary modular classrooms. We genuinely care about creating a positive learning environment for students, even during times of transition or renovation when temporary classroom hire solutions are required to meet demand.
When you choose Portacom for temporary classroom hire solutions, you gain access to a wide range of products and services that are specifically designed to address the challenges that schools often face. We believe in flexibility and customisation, allowing us to quickly deploy temporary classrooms that align with your changing requirements.
We have a range of designs to choose from, or we can discuss all aspects of design and construction along with customisation options to suit the needs of your school and in accordance with your budget. We are constantly adding to the library of designs, materials and attributes of our classrooms to meet current requirements and anticipate future pedagogy requirements.
Our modular school buildings can easily be fitted out to function as classrooms, libraries, music rooms, gymnasiums, labs and sports halls.
... We have been impressed with all aspects of the build and at the end of this process we have a wonderful classroom block ready for term 3. It has been a pleasure to have worked with everyone involved.
The Portacom team were flexible and agile, responding to every challenge with a solution focused approach. They are very experienced at working with schools, understanding the requirements of a modern classroom. The buildings, while temporary, are of excellent quality, warm, large and light. Staff and students enjoy working in them.
From a Delivery Manager perspective, Portacom is a top-tier organisation who are an absolute pleasure to work with. Their communication with both the Ministry and the school ensured that problems were solved collaboratively and the result was that all aspects of delivery flowed smoothly.
The initial meeting between myself and Portacom was a significant meeting for me. I needed to know what the whole process looked like and sounded like to keep our tamariki safe. Because this was my first classroom to be built while I'm the principal, I was appreciative of the frequent updates, i.e. when the segments were arriving, the handing over of the key, looking for jobs that need attention.
We've already had quite a few of our teachers say they'd rather teach it out here than in our new building and quite a few of our students feel the same way.
Portacom always provide high quality classrooms, everything down to the finish, to the soft closing cabinetry and the fact that we can get all of this inside of a tight budget, it’s outstanding.
[Portacom’s] incredibly organised response and early consultation preparation, had a significant positive impact on the project outcome.
Safety and Sustainability are important to us too. From a safety perspective, the controlled production environment at our factories greatly contributes to lessening the risk of injury associated with construction. Our buildings are all fitted with insulation and LED or fluorescent lighting, and we're always making design improvements to our fleet to further improve their energy efficiency.
Most importantly, when you build with Portacom, the building itself is reusable. If you're hiring a building from us for a short or medium-term need, you'll rest easy knowing that the same building has been used before and will be used again for another project.
Portacom offers the security and peace of mind of our Building Renter Protection (BRP). Much like a damage waiver on a rental car, BRP is a low-cost alternative to standard property insurance.
Portacom has a team of highly qualified, experienced project managers working across New Zealand. Our team will work with you to understand your needs, design a building (or multiple buildings, depending on the size and scope of your project) to meet those needs then actively manage construction and installation for you. All the while they'll keep you updated as your building progresses towards completion.
Modular building is a method of design and construction which produces uniform, multipurpose buildings which can easily be installed and removed to produce a temporary space. Without the need for permanent foundations, the modular concept also inherently lends itself to scaling up and down as the demand for space changes.
